I had a similar trajectory: a teenager was blown away by the movie and then felt it was a little less perfect viewing it in his 30s. Time for a rewatch. Love this post Mr. Keenan!

At 16, I was all in on Brazil. It was the first movie I saw twice in a theater. Munchausen, too. Munchausen was thoroughly tarnished for me by Sarah Polley’s piece on just how reckless Gilliam was as a director, and Brazil… Brazil may have been tarnished by just how completely I loved it. It couldn’t possibly equal up. Maybe it is the perfect movie for a teenage weirdo in 1986.
